Abstract
The ongoing literature is debating the indication of carotid endarterectomy (CEA) for preventing stroke in patients with asymptomatic carotid stenosis (ACS). Data on the magnitude of the first stroke in ACS patients are scarce, and it is largely unknown whether it can have an impact on the possibility of subsequent CEA. The aim of this study was to evaluate the severity of first stroke in ACS, its correlation with ongoing medical therapy, and CEA outcome.
