Abstract

The EU has a significant impact in shaping the legal rules which regulate the professional environment of nurses and other healthcare professionals. One such aspect is in relation to conditions of employment - health and safety, equal opportunities, free movement within the EU and mutual recognition of qualifications. EU Directives are also deployed as the chosen method to ensure harmonious development of law in all Member States on the basis of EU-wide standards. This article is the first of three focusing on EU law, and looks at the impact of EU law on the nurse as an employee.
