Abstract

Architectural practices will need to adapt to realise the full benefits of CAD. Those benefits are summarised, emphasizing modelling techniques, discipline coordination and library use. The various implications of CAD operation are given and the changes forced onto traditional architectural practice in terms of design team relations, role redefinition and work practices. A scenario of practice in the future is given and the paper concludes by suggesting that the challenges of CAD should be taken up if architectural practice is to remain competitive.
