Abstract

The review is devoted to a highly relevant problem – the impact of polluted air on the respiratory health of the child population. The main pollutants (pollutants) of the air in both urban and rural areas, the depth of their penetration into the respiratory tract are analyzed in detail; evidence is given of an increased risk of respiratory infections and exacerbations of bronchial asthma in children living in large cities. The following issues were discussed: controlled exposure of pollutants and respiratory tract infections; mechanisms of negative effects of polluted air on lungs; is reducing air pollution able to improve human health? It should be noted separately that, despite a thorough search in all foreign and domestic databases available to authors, in the 21st century, single articles are devoted to air pollution issues. This can serve as an indicator of the importance and necessity of conducting in-depth research on this issue. Key words: air pollution, particulate matter, children, respiratory infections, asthma
