Abstract

Empathic care by nurses improves patient safety and outcomes. Nursing educators are responsible for training students to provide empathic care. This study explored the impact of role-play patient simulation on nursing students' empathic state. Participants completed the Comprehensive State Empathy Scale (CSES) questionnaire before and after completion of a role-play simulation. A statistically significant increase was seen in the CSES scores. The findings support the use of role-play simulations to impact state empathy.
