Abstract
Three matched groups of 12 disadvantaged, high ability students who had previously participated in a preschool program underwent differential kindergarten experiences. The variable producing both superior performance by the children on cognitive measures and a more stimulating home environment was found to be a parent counseling program. The youngsters showing the greatest gains on the Binet were those whose mothers had been intensely involved in the educative process at both the preschool and kindergarten levels.
