The Dutch version of this paper can be found here: http://ssrn.com/abstract=2625738.For those who wonder whether Private International Law partly lies on the basis of the “unequal distribution of wealth and power in the world” or on the contrary helps “protect the planetary commons”, the subjects of the liability of multinationals and international labour migration are manifestly rewarding case studies, thus the author argues in this paper. When studying the PIL aspects of the two subjects a glimpse of PIL’s impact on and its potential for the regulation of “global issues” can for sure be seen, thus the author concludes.
