Abstract

The distribution of immunoglobulins in various body fluids of sheep was studied by immunoelectrophoresis. The slow and fast γ-globulins and IgM were present in serum and pre-suckling colostrum. The slow and fast γ-globulins were present in synovial fluid, pericardiac fluid, Graafian follicle fluid and fluid from the uterine cavity. The fast γ-globulin was the only immunoglobulin detected in the cerebrospinal fluid, lower respiratory tract, seminal plasma and accessory fluid. In some ewes, the fast γ-globulin was present in the bile. The immunoglobulin content of ewe colostrum, milk and postsuckling lamb serum varied according to the stage of suckling. Antibodies to the slow and fast γ-globulins and IgM were evoked in rabbits by injecting either fluid from the upper part of the small intestine or post-suckling colostrum.
