Abstract
The National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) currently maintains an AVHRR image Browse Library. This faculty is used extensively to view and select AVHRR data for retrospective use. Inadequacies in the old browse system motivated the NCDC to develop the Image Library and Browse System (ILABS). The ILABS consists of a mainframe software subsystem that produces display-ready imagery from AVHRR 1b data sets and PC based work stations to catalog, store, retrieve, and display AVHRR browse imagery.
