Abstract

This paper reports a study of the distribution of alkaline phosphatase and neurosecretory material in the neuroendocrine organs of the house-cricket, Gryllodes sigillatus. Similarity in distribution between enzyme and neurosecretory material has been found in the medial neurosecretory cells of the brain and the intrinsic secretory cells of the corpora cardiaca. On the other hand, in the corpora allata the enzymatic activity occurs where neurosecretory material is absent. The physiological significance of such relationships between sites of alkaline phosphatase activity and neurosecretory material is discussed.
