Abstract
Alexander Ivanovich Herzen, revolutionary democrat, materialist thinker, brilliant writer and publicist, scientist, enlightener and political figure, made an important contribution to the development of educational theory. Questions of upbringing and education, of enlightenment of the people were an organic part of his theoretical and practical organizational work, a means of struggle for the reconstruction of social relations, for the perfection of man and human relations.
