Abstract

The article provides a sociological analysis of the perception of the ideal female body and the practices of its construction in the youth community. The ideas of girls regarding the ideal body, barriers to achievement and design practices are revealed. Based on the online survey of undergraduate students (n = 160), as well as data from expert interviews, it is argued that the body as an ideal model should correspond to the hourglass model as referred to average height. Speaking about the actors influencing the representations of girls, a significant role is played by media personalities who not only demonstrate physical attractiveness, but also possess higher status. At the same time, the processes of digitalization of social practices determine both the gap between the normativity of the body and its functionality, and the growth of distrust in the proposed online methods of working with the body. The main practice of body design is physical activity, including the use of online products, and laziness becomes a barrier to achieving a perfect body shape.
