Abstract

Hypothermia therapy, also known as target temperature management (TTM), is active treatment that tries to achieve and maintain a specific body temperature in a person during recovery. TTM can reduce increased intracranial pressure caused by traumatic brain injury, suppress cerebral edema, improve the prognosis, efficiently reduce the mortality, and improve the quality of life. Currently, in domestic and overseas, it has been widely used in clinic. This review is based on the history of TTM, the relevant mechanism, implementation methods, complications, and current corresponding new perspectives.
