Abstract
ADVANCES in anesthesia, obstetrics and medical care have made it possible to carry patients with severe cardiac disease safely through pregnancy. It is the purpose of this article to call to the attention of the internist a benign form of hypotension that may well appear in severe cardiac disease and is easily remedied by a simple maneuver but made worse by conventional treatment. Shock in any patient suggests a serious complication and calls for immediate action. If shock occurs in the previously healthy pregnant woman one is apt to think of severe hemorrhage from a ruptured uterus or premature separation . . .
