The Hyperspherical Harmonic Method Applied to 12C and 16O in the α-Particle Model

Abstract

We apply the hyperspherical harmonic expansion method to the low-lying states of 12C and to the ground state of 16O in the α-particle model. Two different phenomenological α — α potentials are considered. The method adopted allows for accurate calculations of the 3α model for 12C, even when nonlocal potentials are considered; however, in the case of a 4α system the expansion is rather slowly convergent.
