Abstract

A coating with excellent anticorrosion and active self-healing properties was prepared by adding the hydrophobically modified ethyl cellulose aerogel loaded with corrosion inhibitor -BTA into epoxy coating. The morphology and composition of the aerogel were characterized by SEM, FTIR and TGA. The amount percentage of the loaded corrosion inhibitor -BTA was about as high as 37.50 %. The cumulative release of BTA with different pH are 74.37 %, 73.51 % and 74.12 % for pH= 5, 7 and 9, respectively. The similar release behavior of BTA under neutral, acidic and alkaline conditions ensures that the coatings added with aerogel may show excellent self-healing properties under various pH conditions. Owing to the superhydrophobic property of aerogel and the high load of BTA, EIS results showed that the coating with 6 % aerogel exhibited good anticorrosion and self-healing properties.
