Abstract

The kinetics of the hydrolysis of zirconium n-propoxide in ethanol was investigated by determining the time to the onset of turbidity for various concentrations of water and alkoxide. An empirical expression for calculating reaction times for various reagent concentrations was derived and a reaction route proposed on the basis of the observed kinetics. The reaction product was also analysed in order to determine its composition.
