Abstract

The Caspian region is one of the oldest oil producing regions of the world. Seen in a global framework, the hydrocarbon reserves and production are relevant. In the article will be viewed the hydrocarbon potential for both oil and natural gas. It will be analyzed for the single countries and the total region and compared with other regions. The development of oil and natural gas production is shown with an outlook to 2020. The Caspian Region is one of only few regions of the world with potential for significant growth of oil and natural gas production. The pipeline network for oil and gas is described and future developments are included. In conclusion, the Caspian region can play an important role in the future supply of oil and natural gas to European and Asian markets.
