Abstract
The hydration of cation exchange membranes after sorption of basic amino acids was estimated by the isopiestic method. A correlation between the length of the amino acid side group and the amount of water absorbed was observed. The influence of the number of methylene amino acid units on the molal sorbate concentration in the membrane phase was considered. The hydration of the membrane was compared with that of the granular ion exchanger from which it was prepared.
