Abstract

In this paper, the hybrid approach of combining the planar, cylindrical and spherical Perfectly Matched Layers (PML's) is proposed to truncate the unbounded region when 3-D curvilinear edge finite element method is used to solve certain radiating and scattering problems. In these cases, the hybrid PML's can be designed to adapt to the shape of the scatterer or radiator so as to reduce the number of unknowns. In addition, when the cylindrical PML is terminated by a semi-spherical PML, the edge regions and their reflections can be eliminated. Therefore, the computational accuracy and efficiency can be further increased.
