Abstract
An Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) System has been in operation for over a year in Huntington Beach, California. This system is part of an integrated Computer Aided Dispatcher/AVL system in use by the Huntington Beach Police Department. The AVL system incorporates 483 RF signposts, services 56 police vehicles, and provides color graphic displays for two police dispatchers while sharing an existing UHF voice channel. The AVL system, its CAD interfaces, and the first years' operation are described.
