Abstract

This study examines the specific features of Transylvanian politics, which is influenced by its ethnic, cultural, and confessional diversity. The political role of the Hungarian minority and Romanian nationalists in the 1990s is analyzed. The study also focuses on how the main Romanian parties and political blocs influenced regional politics. The changing views of the Democratic Alliance of the Hungarians in Romania on the autonomy issue and the problems that resulted from its attempts to raise this issue are also examined.
