Abstract

Introduction: 10-15% of adults have gallstone disease with 20% being symptomatic at diagnosis and 1-4% within a year. 66,660 cholecystectomies are performed every year in the UK, costing about £111.6 million, and 61,220 (91.83%) of these are laparoscopic cholecystectomies (LC). UK emergency cholecystectomy rates for acute-calculous-cholecystitis (ACC) varies from 0.2% to 35%.
