Abstract

Background: We designed a motor vehicle A from January 2012 to June 2014. In November 19, 2013, we carried out a frontal collision test for the car A1 (a test car of the motor vehicle A) in accordance with GB 11551-2003 The protection of the occupants in the event of a frontal collision for motor vehicle [1] at Dongfeng technical center test section in Xiangyang. In the motor vehicle frontal collision the hood invaded the front windshield and the front windshield was broken, which may pierce the blasting gasbag and even contact with the occupant head causing fatal injuries, it was not good. Objective: This paper is aimed to put forward the design points of the hood system frontal collision safety performance. Method and Material: This study is carried out by improving the car A1 hood safety performance to summarize the hood system frontal collision safety performance design requirements and design methods. Results: We established 3 CAE projects for the hood system components strength, and we verified the design standards by the test. We improved the structure strength of the hood hinges, and we improved the shape of the hood collapse in the motor vehicle frontal collision. The improved hood hinges and the improved hood were mounted in the car A2 (a test car of the motor vehicle A). In March 7, 2014, we carried out a frontal collision test for the car A2 in accordance with GB 11551-2003 at Dongfeng technical center test section in Xiangyang. In the motor vehicle frontal collision the hood and the body structure effectively connected, the hood effectively crumpled, the collapse shape was an n shape, the hood didn't hit the windshield, the windscreen was intact, it is good. Conclusions: We put forward the design points of the hood frontal collision safety performance: We must avoid the collision between the hood and windshield, which could cause the failure of the airbag burst and cause damage to the occupant in a motor vehicle frontal collision. We should make sure that the hood system components and the body structure can be effectively connected, and will not be tore in a motor vehicle frontal collision, we must check the stress and strain of the parts in the simulation of CAE analysis. We should make sure that the hood should be able to effectively collapse in a motor vehicle frontal collision and the hood collapse shape should be an n or a ? shape.
