Abstract

Ultrasound training in Bangladesh was started in 1980 when the first ultrasound machines arrived in the capital city of Dhaka—one in the Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (ICVD) supported by Japanese cardiologists for echocardiography, the other in the Institute of Nuclear Medicine (INM), a joint project of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC), and the Institute of Postgraduate Medicine and Research (later named Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University). In February 2006 we started a heel ultrasound project with the assistance of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Johns Hopkins University, USA.
