Abstract

It is 70 years since the formation of the RCGP in 1952. Over this time, GP training has been an integral part of our profession’s history, shaping the identity of GP trainers and having a powerful influence on the creation of GPs and our role in the community. Understanding the route to becoming a GP trainer is important in maintaining a line of teachers to support aspiring GPs. This article aims to provide a brief overview of the history of GP training, and also to promote understanding of the pathway to becoming a GP trainer.
