Abstract

The histopathologic response of DBA/2J male mice to intravenous inoculation of 2 genetically-defined strains (one haploid and the other diploid) of Aspergillus nidulans differing markedly in virulence were examined. This was done to decide whether the difference in virulence could be explained on the basis of host response to the 2 strains. No evidence was found to indicate that the host responds differently in terms of the lesions produced by the strains. The difference in virulence of the strains probably resides in inherent differences in their genetic composition thus supporting my previous investigations of the genetic control of virulence in A. nidulans.
