Abstract

ABSTRACTA study of a sample of hipparion teeth from Pliocene marine fossil deposits in Suffolk revealed two species, belonging to different genera of these three-toed horses. Hipparion sp. (of the H. crassum Group) and Proboscidipparion sp. have different stratigraphic ranges on the European continent. Their stratigraphic origin in the Suffolk deposits is discussed, based on a review of the occurrence of similar forms on the European continent.
