Abstract
An analog of the Hilbert Basis Theorem for commutative monoids in tensored abelian categories with mild exactness properties is established: in particular a necessary and sufficient condition for the free commutative monoid on an object to be noetherian is given. A separating example to distinguish this condition from the more obvious condition of noetherian-ness of the generating object is presented.
