Abstract

Monoclinic neodymium-pentaphosphate NdP 5O 14 (space group P2 1 c ) suffers a reversible phase transition at 115°C. The high-temperature structure belongs to the orthorhombic space group Pncm. This phase is a new structure which has not been previously observed in the rare-earth pentaphosphates. We explain the lattice transition by a displacive transformation. A Guinier-Lenné high-temperature camera is used for the X-ray detection of this transition. With the measured θ-values we determined the lattice parameters of both structures.
