Abstract

The local potential for the temporal component of the gauge field is computed in finite temperature SU(2) Yang-Mills theory in one-loop order. The renormalized potential has minima at nonzero values of the gauge field indicating that the three dimensional effective theory for the static modes is in the Higgs phase at high temperature.
