Abstract
SummaryThe properties of the HgMn stars, including their rate of occurrence as a function of temperature and their rotational velocity distribution, are discussed. It is shown that there must be some normal, slowly rotating stars; slow rotation is a necessary but not sufficient condition for the formation of a HgMn star. The relationship of the HgMn stars to other peculiar stars, including the Am and He-weak stars, is discussed.
