Abstract

I. Gorbachevsky is a famous historical fi gure, a Decembrist, who was exiled to Transbaikalia and lived there until the end of his life. His contribution to the development of the society and culture of the region includes both educational works for the benefi t of the local society and preservation of the memory of the Decembrists after their departure from exile, memoirs about the December uprising. The house of I. Gorbachevsky and his grave in the Decembrist necropolis are heritage sites of federal signifi cance. In the 21st century the legacy of the Decembrist is not only preserved, but serves as a source of new creative initiatives. The creation of the exposition about him at the Decembrists’ Museum in 2018 became one of the most important cultural events for the city.
