Abstract

By analysing 75 sections of the heliospheric current sheet (HCS) at the Earth's orbit, it is shown that, for a stream-associated HCS, an additional enhancement of plasma density n max and magnetic field B max results from collisions with a high-speed solar wind (SW) inside the sheet as compared with their values for a horizontal HCS, corresponding to the type of stream-free HCS. In this case the effect of additional increase of n max and B max is the stronger, the larger is the slope θ of the HCS section considered to the solar equatorial plane and the higher is the value of SW velocity gradient ΔV Δϑ at points n max and B max. Quantitative characteristics of these relations are obtained.
