Abstract

A systematic treatment is given of bilinear spin-wave theory starting from a rigorous description of the classical ground state for a rather general class of spin Hamiltonians including (staggered) anisotropic exchange interactions and anisotropy fields. Results on spin-wave excitation energies have been obtained for three types of classical ground states, the ferromagnetic state, the Néel state and the spin-flop state. Detailed comparison has been made with the literature.
