Abstract

Cannabis use prior to and during pregnancy has risen due to increasing legalization. We established a renewable and expandable source of human endometrial stromal cells (ESC) and immature cardiomyocytes (CM) to distill the paradoxical effects of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive compound in cannabis, on maternal and fetal health. This is imperative as animal models do not fully mimic the dynamic human endometrium, nor do primary CM expand well ex vivo.
