Abstract

To be a caring professional one must learn to care for oneself. This article is an exemplar of one nurse's discovery of the use of music to cope with stress and grief. Living with unresolved grief and cumulative stresses may lead to the inability to experience the joy of nursing and ultimately to burnout. Art in all its forms provides a mechanism to cope with life's challenges and to create an atmosphere of healing.
