Abstract

The He(I) photoelectron spectra of the series ofunsaturated carbonyl compounds HCCC(O)X, X = H, F, C1, OH, CH 3, have been measured and interpreted with the aid of semi-empirical molecular orbital calculations, vibrational fine-structure, sum-rule considerations, and comparison within the series and with related species. Inductive and resonance effects of the carbonyl substituents are discussed.
