Abstract

The correlation factor for tracer diffusion has been calculated both in the ensemble average and in the time average utilizing the pair approximation of the Path Probability method. Values of the correlation factor calculated by the random walk theory correspond to those in the time average. If the time average value for tracer diffusion coefficient and the ensemble average value for ionic conductivity are used for physical reasons, their ratio or the Haven ratio HR shows a sudden dip as the percolation limit is approached. The temperature dependence of HR observed in Na-β-Alumina and Ag-β-Alumina can be explained well in terms of the above concept.
