Abstract

A small gauze floating tent trap was used to estimate insect emergence rates specifically from the micro-habitat of the intermediate hosts of bilharzia. The design is such that during removal of the catch all contact with infected water may be simply avoided. The quantitative and qualitative seasonal distribution of the commonest species of midge emerging from four typical microhabitats in a small reservoir is given in the form of histograms and their behaviour discussed.
