Abstract

Several studies on the work-rounding mechanism in centerless grinding have been made so far. But how the harmonic of the spectrum of the roundness profile of the workpiece is generated in centerless grinding is not detailed. In this paper the harmonic vibration models are established corresponding to the spectrum analysis of the roundness profile. Based on the magnification factor of vibration equations why the amplitudes of the 2nd and 3rd harmonics are always greater in the spectra of the roundness profiles is explained. Then the instantaneously unstable characters of the harmonic vibration models are introduced. Finally the principles of the distribution of the local maximum harmonics in the spectrum are given.
