Abstract

The frequencies of three Scots pine male inflorescence color variants in a natural Scots pine population indicated that the population was in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. Information can sometimes be obtained on the genetic constitution of a tree population without resorting to long-term progeny tests by examining frequencies of variants in this way. The method also indicates whether or not the character is controlled by only one gene.
