Abstract

1. In conformity with the established traditions of world science and technology, the method of measurement of the hardness of rocks by indentation of a cylindrical punch with a plane base should be named for its inventor, Prof. L. A. Shreiner. Changes should also be made in the GOST 12288-66, “A Method of Determining the Mechanical Properties by Indentation of a Punch,” and the method and the resulting indices should be named “the Shreiner method,” “the Shreiner hardness psh” and “the Shreiner plasticity coefficient Ksh”. 2. To satisfy the demand from many research and production organizations for the UMGP-4 instrument and hard-alloy punches, these should be put into commercial production.
