Abstract

The authors delve deep into their research topics and explore central questions about the Hanse and the sources, advancing knowledge in a field with long and robust research tradition. Several contributions draw on Mediterranean trade, the actions of non- Hanseatic traders or theoretical debates on commerce and economy in late medieval and early modern Europe for comparisons. Furthermore, the authors seek to place the Hanse in a wider context by showing features and mechanisms which were intertwined with pan-European features and mechanisms. They discuss common roots, influences and parallel developments, as well as source and research problems which crop up when various parts of Europe are investigated. Keywords:early modern Europe; Hanse; medieval Europe
