Abstract

This paper is an updated version of a talk given at the second Anglo-German Seminar on Library History (‘The Universal Library’), held at the German Historical Institute in Bloomsbury Square, London, in September 1996. In the context of that conference, it describes how the present-day project of compiling the Handbuch der historischen Buchbestande is an additional tool in gaining bibliographical knowledge of and access to the heritage of German-language printing.
