Abstract

The hand-held programmable calculator can be very useful to the occupational safety and health practitioner by freeing him or her of the need to repeatedly perform a variety of routine and time-consuming calculations. Quite often persons who have not had previous exposure to computers and programming believe that these devices are inaccessible to them because of their own inability to use them. This is an unfortunate misconception. Firstly, the programming of these calculators is not very complicated or difficult. More importantly, there are available many prepared programs whose use requires no knowledge of programming. The programs presented here of this type have been written specifically with the inexperienced user in mind, who only wishes to know “which buttons to press”, so as to obtain the results.
