Abstract

The Hancock Report has been welcomed by the Australian union movement as pointing the way towards the reform and improvement of industrial relations laws and systems. The real strength and value in the Report is that it is a practical document that deals with the major industrial relations issues facing the Australian community and makes recommendations as to how the industrial relations system should be modified and improved. It comes to grips with the major issues and puts forward sensible and workable proposals as to how these issues should be dealt with and how industrial relations in Australia can be improved. This is how the union movement views the Hancock Report. This is not to suggest that the union movement agrees with every conclusion or recommendation in the Hancock Report. The Report is recognized and accepted as providing the basis for making significant and lasting improvements to industrial relations machinery to the benefit of the Australian community.
