Abstract

In the centre of the cosmic-ray air shower experiment KASCADE, a large hadron calorimeter is installed. It allows to investigate the hadronic component of extensive air showers, which strongly influences the shower developement and contains important informations about the primary particle. Following introductionary remarks on cosmic rays and extensive air showers, the detector description and results based on calorimeter data are presented.
