Abstract New VLA imaging in the H I 21 cm line of the peculiar system NGC 520 is presented. As in the optical, a long tidal tail is evident in the H I channel maps stretching from the southern side of the system to the east and north of the main body. The H I emission reaches beyond the tidal tail's optical extent and connects to an H I cloud at the optical position of UGC 957, a dwarf galaxy located ∼6' northwest of NGC 520. The H I data clearly show that a tidal interaction has occurred between NGC 520 and UGC 957. Interpretation of the disturbed morphology and apparent starburst activity in NGC 520 must now include the effects of the interaction with this dwarf galaxy. Within NGC 520, H I is seen in emission along the southeast-northwest disk, and in absorption toward a nuclear continuum source.
