Abstract

This chapter discusses James Franck's appointment at the University of Göttingen, where he became a professor of experimental physics and director of Experimental Department II of the Physics Institute. As a full professor at Göttingen, Franck was also a member of its philosophy faculty. The chapter focuses on the family life of Franck in Gottingen, his research at the Experimental Physics Institute II, and his collaboration with Max Born. It also discusses Franck and Günther Cairo's experimental research on collisions and energy transfer.
